Have a look at ndnext function, Appendix B of the help file.

a=ndnext(0) will assign the smallest node number in the currently selected nodes to variable a.

It should be possible to calculate generalised mass using APDL Math by
reading the mass matrix with *smat and by using *dmat to access the mode

The best work around for this is to add ansys_sysdir to your path. Then you
can simply use "ansys120 -b -i input -o output".
