I am modeling a beam resting on a few springs.
First, I modeled and meshed the beam using PLANE183 elements.
To model each spring, modeled with COMBIN14 elements, I need two nodes: one node is selected from the point connection on the beam, the 2nd node is defined separately.
By defining KEYOPT(2)=2, I make sure the springs are moving only in Y-direction.
Also I fix the first node (the connection point) in horizontal-direction (X-direction).
This model works, but:
1) Although KEYOPT(2)=2 (UY degree of freedom), but I have to fix the first node (the connection point) in X-direction. Otherwise the model won't converge. Does it make sense?
2) For the first node (the connection point ), since there is no node on my desired location on the beam, I want to define a new node on the beam. In that case, how can I connect the new node to the beam to make sure spring is connected to the beam?
